Meet and greet new students

The department will be hosting a graduate orientation for new students on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Following this orientation, we will have a casual meet and greet session with current students, new students and faculty. Come talk to your new colleagues over hors d'oeuvres.

Hokies in support of Northern Illinois Huskies

Yesterday, Hokies around the world felt the pangs of pain yet again after school shootings at Northern Illinois University, in Dekalb, IL. While memories of the horrible act of April 16 came to our minds last night, we also remembered the moments following the act that brought us together as a community.

The Hokie Community -- not just from Blacksburg, but from all over the world -- joins Northern Illinois Huskies in their grief today. Together, with all the others all around the world who are with you today, we will overcome what has been, and emerge stronger.

The Grad Students' Blog

Apart from reading Ph.D. Comics, catching up on world news, dodging our advisors, and otherwise procrastinating, we grad students do other interesting things too. We're hoping that this blog will serve as a creative outlet for all of us, bringing us closer as a community.
